The nationwide drive promotes technical and engineering studies among female high school students, seeking to demonstrate that careers in these fields are attractive and beneficial in the long term.

The campaign, dubbed “Girls as Engineers,” is accompanied by annual reports that focus on women’s role in STEM fields at different stages of their academic careers.

According to the latest study, unveiled on Thursday, women constituted 35 percent of the students at public universities of technology across Poland in the last academic year.

“The report clearly shows that in IT fields this rise is significant ... by 56 percent across all universities, while the number of men increased by 18 percent,” said Anna Knapińska, the author of the report.

“Equally spectacular is the rise in public technical universities, at 47 percent, while the number of men dropped by 3 percent,” she added.

Radio Poland’s Michał Owczarek has this report.
